Today has been spent compiling inspirations for Girl on the Wing's Spring/Summer 13 vintage collection lookbook. While stylist Nicole Walker doesn't work with only vintage, her images have such a timeless, yet quirky feel to them. Had to share some of my favourite portraits that she's styled. Love that each one is so simple and topped off with a statement accessory (mouse included!).
Our blog has moved to our official website www.girlonthewing.ca , see you there!
Girl on the Wing is a retail boutique specializing in vintage clothing and antiques. The shop is a well-curated collection of“lovely little things” that have been collected over time and from the far corners of the world. Girl on the Wing is the start of something special, a style empire where all good things come together. A lovely, romantic atmosphere where one finds inspiration in the past, music, culture and dreams. A little haven of loveliness, where people can shop, interact, share and play dress up to their heart’s content.

forever young
In honour of Oscar week, I've been compiling images of my favourite Old-Hollywood movie stars. Today's style icon is Loretta Young, who won her academy award for Best Actress 65 years ago in 1948. I am in love with her playful style on and off screen. Check out some of her best costumes (harlequin clown!) and off-set outfits (hello valentine outfit...could have mistake her for Marion Cotillard).

bringing up baby
The Academy Awards are up this Sunday and old-hollywood is on my mind. I've been especially inspired by Katherine Hepburn's flawless style, especially during her rise to fame in the 1930's and 40's. That woman could wear a ballgown or mens-inspired trousers and look amazing! Check out some of her best looks below.

the perfect patch
I currently have a beautiful vintage couch sitting in my parent's garage that needs to be recovered. While brainstorming ideas I came across these beautiful patchwork pieces. It might be an overly-ambitious DIY project...but a girl can dream! I love the way they bridge two of my favourite aesthetics- romantic and country.

sunny days
I don't know about you guys, but the sun has been shining lately and it's making me forget the frigid weather outside. Spring is on my mind and while we still have a bit more cold to endure, we're getting there, slowly but surely. Nothing says spring like a fresh pair of sunnies, and Karen Walker's new campaign featuring grannies from Advanced Style, put a huge smile on my face. Known for her unique designs and quirky aesthetic, this kiwi-designer focuses on making sunglasses that are modern with a classic, vintage feel. Would love to one day carry her stuff in the shop...but in the meantime, we'll be on the lookout for retro sunnies to add to the collection.

marry me, marimekko!
I've always loved the fun and bright prints of Finnish company Marimekko. Tonight I'm headed to the Textile Museum's Marimekko, With Love exhibit and can't wait to see the fabrics up close. The company has been around since the 50's so I'm expecting an amazing retrospective. While they're most known for their textiles, I've always been most partial to their housewares. Last summer I travelled throughout Scandinavia and picked up lots of printed retro goodies for the shop- can't wait to share them with you all!

alice+olivia: ladies of the manor
lookbook lady
A few years ago when this idea for Girl on the Wing started, I got together with some amazingly talented and creative girls and shot some pieces from my collection. Here are some of the images, shot by Allysandra Cervantes, makeup and hair by the lovely Christina Spina, lookbook design and layout by the magnificent Nicola Hamilton, and styling by myself, Whitney McMeekin. Model Alyssa Winegarden was the perfect mix of femininity and glamour. Enjoy!
